When the transfer window was closed, it was revealed that Newcastle United were in a hug to secure midfield reinforcements.
Magpie had an eventful summer transfer window where star player Alexander Isaac left the club and joined Liverpool after a long-term transfer saga.
Isak joined Liverpool in a record-breaking Premier League move, which forced the Magpie to make a new signature in that position.
Eddie Howe and his recruitment team signed strikers Nick Urtemade and Joane Wissa to bolster their offense.
However, despite midfielder Ramsey’s signature from Aston Villa, they considered another signature, especially after Sandro Tonaro and Jollington were injured against Liverpool.
Newcastle United targeted Connor Gallagher
Newcastle went ahead with Davide Frattesi’s loan approach, but he wasn’t the only target.
Atletico Madrid’s Connor Gallagher also reportedly participated in the mix.
Transfer Insider Graeme Bailey spoke with Geordie Boot Boys to reveal that Gallagher enquiries were active and Manchester United was also involved in early stage consultations.
“We received an inquiry about Davide Frattesi.” He said.
“To be honest, I think a few midfielders have been enquiries. Conor Gallagher was alone.
“In an ideal world, it would be a perfect transfer window to see Newcastle bring in another midfielder, especially when Sandro Tonari and Jollington looked seriously injured.
“The Gallagher representatives were touching on the bases at several clubs, and he was also linked to Manchester United. It was a loan agreement, and Newcastle was one of the involved parties during the enquiry stage. ”
Eddie Howe would have loved Gallagher
Gallagher would have been the ideal player for Howe’s midfield this season.
He is a player with great work rates in the middle, and sometimes he has the habit of scoring one or two special goals, and his experience in the Premier League would have been ideal for Magpies.
It is still unclear whether they will consider his move in the future, but he appears to be a player who can easily fit into Howe’s system at St. James Park.
Newcastle insiders crossed the line as they share what they blamed Isaac
