Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandez is reportedly rethinking his future with the club amid increasing turbulence on and off the pitch.
Fernandez is increasingly frustrated by the slides of United’s performance and the club’s inability to provide consistency, leading to speculation that he will eventually be able to leave.
Questions surrounding his role, ambitions and status within the team come while it is becoming a disastrous season for the Red Devils.
The Premier League Giants are currently struggling in the lower half of the Premier League table after their latest defeat against city rival Manchester City.
Man United continues to struggle
Sunday’s 3-0 loss at Etihad Stadium further underscored United’s issues, raising questions about the manager’s future and the most influential player right now, as well as the possibility of achieving its goals this season.
Former United Chief Scout Mic Brown sparked speculation about the future of the Portuguese midfielder at Old Trafford, claiming that the move to Saudi Arabia in the near future could not be ruled out.
Brown told the soccer insider:
“We fully expect Saudi Arabia’s interest to continue, and it has not really disappeared.
“We met with his agent and everything else, but Fernandez decided to stay at Manchester United.
“He’s happy with United right now, but I think a lot of people will depend on how Man United does this season.
“If they endure different struggles in the Premier League and everything else, Fernandez could rethink his position at the end of the season and move on.
“If Fernandez decides to move, look, there is no shortage of interest from the Saudi Arabian professional league.
“If the World Cup and everything happens next year, if Man United still doesn’t show progress under Amorim, that could come with Fernandez’s future and what he wants to do.”
Bruno Fernandez has a big decision
The lack of silverware and recent disappointing results contribute to the uncertainty surrounding Fernandez’s future.
Fernandez continues to strive at the top level, but United’s defensive lapses, tactical disruption under manager Reuben Amorim and inconsistent displays are gradually eroding confidence.
On the one hand, he is the captain, one of United’s most creative players, and perhaps the player who can most influence a game, even when the team is struggling.
Meanwhile, maintaining motivations at clubs experiencing transitions is difficult.
Fernandez is being chased by a Saudi club, similar to his transfer period this summer, but the midfielder has decided to stay at Old Trafford. Perhaps he may take a different stance about his future if the offer comes in the future.
This year, the manager was plundered to replace Man United’s Reuben Amorim.
