The never-ending debate about who is the greatest player of all time is being debated after a comment from David Falk.
The discourse on the greatest basketball player of all time continues to be a point of contention in LeBron James’ quest to defeat Michael Jordan.
Fans and experts, including Charles Berkley, have said a lot about each of the two cases. And now, representatives of the players’ past and present are working on it.
Former Jordanian agent David Falk dropped a major take by claiming that the “Cherry Pick” team and the superstar he wanted to play with would have won 15 championships. This was a clear shot aimed at LeBron James and the “Superteam” era.
Falk’s comments are an obvious jab against James’ legacy, praising Jordan and his competitive spirit.
While there is no doubt that James won his place by taking part in the goat debate, his success came while paired with the superstar, which has produced a huge debate over the years.
James won four NBA championships in nine finals. This was achieved when dominated the 90s with the Bulls, fewer than the perfect record of Jordan’s six to six.
Jordan had Scotty Pippen, Dennis Rodman, Toni Kukok and Horace Grant as some of his major teammates in his illustrious career. James enjoyed partnerships with Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosch, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Love, Anthony Davis and now Luka Donsic within the Los Angeles Lakers.
While fans may continue to support Jordan as the best of all time, LeBron James agent Rich Paul finds Falk’s recent comments illogical and unnecessary.
He also points out that LeBron James had to endure a level of scrutiny that Michael Jordan had never done.
Speaking to Rich Eisenshaw, Paul said: “Michael never had to leave.
“Michael didn’t have a 24-hour, 365-day news cycle. He didn’t have a show that was strictly built to criticise him.
“And when talking about all the difficulties, Michael played for Dean Smith, Michael played for Phil Jackson, Michael had Jerry Kraus.
“I’m the biggest fan of Michael Jordan. I love Michael Jordan. I don’t think he used the term “cherry pick” so I’m not here to trust him.
“I think Michael Jordan has turned our game into a level that we all benefited from. We’re focusing more on why it’s a goat and why we’re having a great conversation with the two guys and why we can’t stay at dinner.
“I think these types of comments are why I think there is always one king in my community who looks like me, and that idea has been embedded in many places as a minority.
James’ notion of “cherry picking” relates to the claim that he has a strong influence in determining the teams and rosters around him.
One of the most infamous claims was his reported article to the 2021 blockbuster trade for Russell Westbrook. However, the major acquisition of MVP in 2017 turned into a disaster, preventing the franchise from following the success of the 2020 title.
“The Westbrook trade, he didn’t do that trade against what people put out there,” Paul said. “I know the facts.
“There are so many decisions when you put it on the player or in the front office, and again, you can’t confuse them by asking players what they think is an actual decision.
“The front office has made decisions and lives with the outcome, so they’re paid the money they do to be in that position.”
It’s natural for everyone to talk and compare players. But at the end of the day, the goat debate remains subjective as Jordan, James and other sports legends had to deal with their own time, luck and competition.
