The situation with Jonathan Cuminga is shining the spotlight on the Golden State Warriors.
The Golden State Warriors successfully made it into the 2025 NBA playoffs and pulled it apart without a disliked Jonathan Kuminga right now.
The situation began with the regular season finale against the Dubs’ Rank Rippers, and had to explain why Steve Kerr didn’t play Jonathan Cuminga.
I was hoping Kuminga would return to a play-in tournament game with Memphis Grizzlies, but the 22-year-old didn’t play even in a second.
Jonathan Cuminga’s absence on the court caused a very important response.
Kendrick Perkins criticized Steve Kerr for not playing Jonathan Cuminga and called out the Golden State coach for the ignore he is showing.
Another former NBA star, Chandler Parsons, urged the younger forwards to leave the Bay Area this summer as a restricted free agent.
For now, we’re waiting to see if Carminga can get a call from Carr in a first round matchup of seven games against the Houston Rockets.
And in Trippin’ Podcast, Richard Jefferson provided his thoughts on the Congolese abilities that rely on the Golden State.
“Cuminga is an X-factor. He might go out and get a 25 in the night. He might go out there and give an 8 in the night,” Jefferson said. “You don’t know.
“For me, I want to go with the demons I know, being able to go to the game with the things I know, and being able to hold it accountable.
“The series is different now. There’s no doubt that Kuminga will perform in this series. They’ll need him.
“But let’s say he has two or three good games, two or three good games. If he enters the situation in Game 7 of Houston and Golden State, he may not see Kuminga again.
“He hasn’t been consistently proven that he can contribute as consistently as you want.”
He may have consistent problems, but Kuminga has a solid opportunity to reinsert himself into the dub rotation. Opposed to this past regular season, he actually averaged 21.3 points and 6.8 boards in nearly 29 minutes, shooting 50.8% from the field efficiently.
Teammate Draymond Green insisted that Kuminga would be present to help and support the team against Rocket.
“He’s going to contribute (against Houston),” Green said of Cuminga following the Warriors’ play-in victory over the Grizzlies.
“He’s great, he’s given his job, that’s what you can do in that situation is to get your job. He makes sense to us in that series. I have no doubt about it.
Whether he’s in the lineup or heading into the postseason, Cuminga must be prepared and professional enough to accept any role he’ll ultimately get in the interest of the Warriors’ title plan, and then reassess his future.
