Former Indian manager Greg Chapel has issued a serious warning to BCCI regarding teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavansi playing for the Rajasthan Royals in the ongoing IPL 2025.
At just 14 years old, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has already made headlines, but Greg Chappell fears that the story of this batting sensation will go in either direction.
The left-handed batter swept the cricket world with his explosive batting, defeating the stunning 35th century in his debut IPL season, the second fastest in tournament history. Well, the Chapel concerns come from the past of India and the young genius.

Handle Vaibhav Suryavanshi carefully, not hype: Greg Chappell to Bcci
On the one hand there was Sachin Tendulkar. He became a cricket legend. But on the other hand, names like Vinod Kambli and Prithvi Shaw showed early glow, but were unable to maintain their rise. Starting a journey with Tendulkar, Kambli fails to do justice to his talent.

Meanwhile, after leading India to the U-19 World Cup title in 2018 and winning the debut Test century, Prithvi Shaw, once hailed as the next big thing, has now been out of the senior team and has been rolled out again at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. The reasons behind their fall were controversy, fitness issues and discipline issues.
Greg Chapel urges bcci to not vaibhav suryavanshi become another Prithvi Shaw
Well, Vaibhav Suryavanshi shocked the world of cricket, proving that age doesn’t matter when talent shines. But at the same time, the fact that he has great talent and takes great responsibility, Greg Chapel believes that how BCCI manages left-handed batsman will determine whether he will become another Sachin Tendulkar or end up like Vinod Cambri or Prisvi Shaw. The Chapel is urging Indian cricket decision makers to handle the rise of Vaibab carefully.
In a column in Espncricinfo, Greg Chappell wrote:
Meanwhile, the equally talented and perhaps even more flashy Vinod Kambli struggled to balance fame and discipline. His fall was as dramatic as his rise. Prithvi Shaw is another wonder that he fell but may still find a way to return to the top. ”

‘Vaibhav Suryavanshi is not simply prominent, it must be raised.”
The legendary Australian cricketer emphasized the need to carefully guide young talent, saying it was not to question their skills, but to make sure they were nurtured the right way. Chapel adds, “These stories challenge the wisdom of how they are fostered or misused, rather than questioning the abilities of young people.”
The former Indian head coach has urged BCCI, IPL franchises and media to focus on guiding Suryavanshi’s talent rather than using it for marketing. He emphasized that young players like Vaibhav need protection, support and proper guidance to develop into a long-term star.
“The cricket ecosystem (BCCI, franchises, mentors, media) is mandated to protect him. Talent cannot be wrapped in bubble, but cannot be provided with a buffer,” Chapel said.
