Gabba’s victory in 2021 is remembered as the day Rishabh Pant dismantled Australia’s pride towards the so-called fortress. Rishabh Pant’s fearless, unbeaten knock of 89 runs against Australia at Gabba has become one of the most iconic Test knocks in history.
Chasing 324, Shubman Gill laid the foundations in the fluent 91, but Pants’ quick scoring and offensive approach helped India to defeat Australia’s longstanding advantage in the so-called fortress, winning the border and Gabasker trophy.
Justin Langer disregards the magic of Rishab Pants’ Gaba
For Indian cricket fans, Gaba’s victory was nothing more than a fairy tale as the depleted team, injured warriors and young wicketkeeper delivered modern classic cricket with Gaba.

Pants knocks are still considered one of the iconic test innings, but former Australian head coach Justin Langer played the magic of the moment.

Langer, who works with Rishabupant in the IPL’s Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), suggests that the left-handed batsman’s innings are not entirely out of an abnormal state as the day is flatter than usual and is different from the typical Gaba challenge.
It was a flat ticket gate: Justin Langer
The former Australian coach points out that the changing situation reduced the benefits of Australia’s regular households and helped Indian wicket keeper butter Rishabhpants knock that match won with Gaba.
Justin Langer said in his “For the Love of Cricket” podcast:
Rishabh Pant played an incredible innings at Gabba. But it was also the fourth test of Covid, and the flattest ticket gate. That period in January was different from the November play. We lost that advantage. ”

What did Justin Langer say after Gaba was defeated in 2021?
Langer’s remarks on the podcast were completely contrary to the statement he gave after Gaba’s defeat in 2021. The former Australian head coach was comparing Ben Stokes’ memorable hundred innings to pants innings in 2019 at Headingley with Australia.
“It was an incredible effort. (Rishabh) Pants’ innings reminded me of Ben Stokes’ innings at Headingley,” he told a 2021 press conference in Brisbane.
Now it will be interesting to see how Pants respond to his LSG head coach, Langer, to his comments about his memorable knock at Gaba. In particular, India beat Australia with three wickets in the presence of Virat Kohli at Gaba, winning the Test series with a 2-1 margin.
Interestingly, Rucknow Super Giants (LSG) reports that after the poor 2025 season, they can say goodbye to either Justin Langer or Mentor Zaheer Khan ahead of 2026.
