Rob Pelinka, general manager of La Lakers, talks about superstar Luka Doncic.
The La Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves series are 1-1, but Luka Doncic has been arguably the best player on the court in the last two games.
Combining 68 points for the first two, Luka Doncic has provided a high level for the Lakers and has won fan approval.
Thanks to the strange beliefs of the Dallas Mavericks, it’s still incredibly incredible that Luka Donsic is with the Lakers.
Nico Harrison’s call appears to be judged very badly, with the big winner being his Lakers counterpart GM Rob Perinka.
There is no doubt that Luka Doncic’s trade helped restore Rob Pelinka’s reputation. Lakers fans were waiting for GM to make a splash.
And while there’s no doubt that this deal fell on Lakers’ lap, Perinka was surprised when it was proposed, he did what Smart GM does and quickly agreed to a deal with the Mavericks.
Rob Perinka spoke about Luka Donsic on a Sportsnet broadcast ahead of Game 2 of the Lakers’ opening NBA Playoff Series, and talked about his impressions so far.
Perinka explained: “He’s an fantasyist. He’s doing things on a basketball court that you don’t think you’re real.
“You might watch online videos, you might hear legendary stories, but how did you do that until you see them living in the building?”
Pelinka discussed Doncic’s efforts to put behind the scenes on a daily basis, laughing at her concerns and dedication from Mavericks.
“I tell you, he is a great leader in the gym every day and works hard in his craft.
“Obviously, you can’t be one of the best players in the world without having to do your job.”
Perinka has benefited not only from trade, but his reputation is being strengthened. The Lakers announced this week that he has signed a new contract extension.
Rob Perinka was also asked about LA Lakers superstar LeBron James, providing a brilliant rating for the 40-year-old.
He said of his belief that LeBron has already had a positive impact on Luka Donsic.
He states: “We know the stories around LeBron and how he invests in his body. They say $1 million a year. You hear all this, but that’s preparation.
“He is so trapped in everything he eats, everything he does to stretch, train, get stronger and maintain the rhythm of his game.
“I think you can only get inspiration and learn to see them up close, young players in the league. And I think that’s great for Luka.”
