Rory McIlroy was delighted with his performance at the Scotland Open after finishing the runner-up for American Chris Gottap on Sunday.
McIlroy was about to become the first player to win the Masters and the Scotland Open in the same season, but finished two shots behind Gotterup, leading to second place with Marco Pengge.
“I’m really happy where everything is,” McIlroy, who won the opening in 2014, told reporters. “I’ll just go to Portrush tonight and go to the golf course early tomorrow and give my attention to it.”
McIlroy, 36, struggled to find his best form after completing his career grand slam with the Masters in April. World No. 2 said in June that after claiming the elusive Masters title, it didn’t expect how difficult it would be to stay motivated.
However, after a strong performance at North Berwick last weekend, the five-time major champion said he was ready to focus fully on the open.
“I’m really happy with where my game is, how I played it over the weekend, how I hit shots and how I controlled the ball flight,” McIlroy said. “It was a great week. I’m missing the trophy, that’s about it.”
