NBA insider Tim McMahon has revealed an interesting destination Rudy Goat would like to move in before he could trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Since moving from the Utah Jazz to the Minnesota Timberwolves, Rudy Goat has had his own stock of ups and downs for several years.
His first year as a T-Wolves player had several hurdles, including dropping out of his own teammates.
However, he bouncing off well in his second year, pinning his defense, showing the world what he can do when he wins the fourth DPoy trophy, helping his team advance to the conference finals.
This year, he once again demonstrated his abilities. Gobert enjoys a huge game five against the LA Lakers to knock them out of the playoffs.
However, Tim McMahon revealed that Gobert initially didn’t want to move to Minnesota, and was thinking about playing alongside his now bitter rival, Star.
Anthony Edwards has shown great support for Gobert many times.
But ESPN insider McMahon said the French Big wanted to play alongside Don Sic.
He states:
“When it was pretty clear that he wanted to spend his entire career in Utah, it was pretty clear that it wasn’t his path last year.
“There was a time when Mark Cuban and Nico Harrison were very interested in the idea, and the Mavericks knocked out the Jazz that year’s playoffs.”
And in light of that playoff series, McMahon was appointed to one important man who was not too enthusiastic about spending his major assets to land the Frenchman.
“Jason Kidd wasn’t that excited to have Rudy Goat,” he explained.
Ironically, Doncic and Gobert became rivals and have met several times in the playoffs since.
Don Sic’s stint in Dallas was a success in most parts, especially his final year when he led the team to the NBA Finals.
It was the presence of the centers of Daniel Gafford and Derek Lively II that helped him.
Gafford and Lively contributed not only to the defensive side, but also to the offensive edge.
Playing with pick and roles, imposing will on paints, and Rob’s ability to become a threat helped Don Sic to excel.
And they reached the NBA Finals together, but weren’t enough to beat the Boston Celtics, who escaped the 4-1 series winner last season.
Was he different from Rudy Gobert? perhaps. But the 2024 team built with assets sent to the Jazz to win four DPOY winners, everything would have been different.
