Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney really don’t like each other.
On Friday, both Garcia and Haney compete in a historic Times Square boxing event called Fatal Fury: City of Wolves, with Garcia winning Rolly Romero for the WBA welterweight title, and Haney will face Jose Ramirez in the co-main event. But you’ll most likely know that Garcia and Haney aren’t fighting on Friday after an explosive exchange at Wednesday’s press conference.
Garcia and Haney have a renowned rivalry at this point, with Garcia winning the fight last April, but they lost weight in the match and tested positive for the banned substance Ostarine. Garcia settled on the New York State Athletics Board, where a year of bans from the competition, fines and victory were overturned by a non-contest. However, “King Ryan” maintains his innocence on the issue. Of course, Haney disagrees. It appears the two are on a conflict course where they need to handle business on Friday. And they certainly did their best to hype the potential rematch.
Things started quietly, but when Garcia was asked about her conflict with Haney’s father, Bill Haney during open training on Tuesday, Garcia got hot.
“He was coming to my physique and that’s all good,” Garcia said. “They said the same thing last time, so last time we got our ass!
“He’s off that Ostarin, and he doesn’t sound the same!” Haney replied. “His voice has returned. Your build has changed! You have boobs now! Those muscles are gone, your voice is gone.
It only escalated from there.
“What happened to Ryan Garcia?” Bill Haney said. “This isn’t Ryan Garcia the same.”
“I have multiple personalities, bitch!” Garcia retorted. “I have multiple personalities, bitch! And you don’t want to see crazy things! You don’t want to see crazy personality, bitch! You and your son are some bitches. You’re a big bitch!”
This way, lasted a few more minutes, and the two parties cried out at each other. The crowd took part in the action, chanting “close f*ck Up” to Bill Haney after being urged by Garcia.
Things went on an unexpected turn when Bill Haney and Oscar de La Hoya became almost physical after he made some comments about De La Hoya and his Golden Boy Promotions. After things settled, Haney appears to have not really insulted De La Jolla, but even so, the Hall of Fame offers to solve things in the old fashioned way.
“Everyone is a great fighter here,” said De La Jolla. “There are three main events, three great battles. You’ll sit down and learn how to promote. There are four if you need it. Me and you!”
