The Maiden’s World Subpole position and podium meant that the Dutch World Subpole was a breakout weekend for Samlows.
The Mark VDS Ducati rider is now in his second season on World Superbikes, taking pole position on a record-breaking lap on Saturday morning before being taken to Alvaro Bautista in Race 1.
Sunday was once again positive for Lowes, who was on the podium in the wet superpole race despite returning to the start.
Sam Rose identifying mistakes in Assen’s Worldsub Race 2
“It was true (Sunday morning) with a wet warm-up and a wet start of the Super Pole race,” Rose told WorldSBK.com after Race 2 at Assen.
“Starting from the pole position, I was very careful to get off to a good start. In the rain, it was easier if I could track everything clearly, so I focused on the start and missed the brake point and locked the front a bit.
“It was a fun race and I passed through and overtaken the people around me (and) I managed to get my first podium on the superbike. It was a relief. It was good because I had a good ride in the pole position and race yesterday – that was a great step for me and my team.”
Lowes finished fourth in Race 2 and ran in front group in the first half of the race, but was dropped out of the podium contest as the race was drawn in the pack.
The British rider said he doesn’t expect repeat podium performances from the wet superpole race in Dry Race 2.
“I knew that in the long race I had missed a bit to compete for the podium, but we were aiming for the top five,” he said.
“I’m obviously sorry for Brega because he broke down. It would have been fifth for us, but we managed to rely on the best top. It was a positive day.
“We went to the hard (composite) front tires in a long race. I don’t think it was bad, but there was a bit of speed and a bit of turning. Finally, I thought I could get to get forward at the end for the tires, but in the end it was something similar.
“I’m not saying that it was the wrong choice, but if I raced again, I’d tried something softer, but I didn’t finish the race (on Saturday), so it was a bit of a gamble.”
