Sanju Samson was seriously injured
Samson was injured in an IPL 2025 match against the Delhi Capitals. While chasing targets in the match, he played offensive brand of cricket, but his innings ended tragically when he was injured.
Samson ran the 19 ball, slamming 31 before retiring. He picked up the injury when he cut and missed Vipraj Nigam.
He immediately clenched his left side around his rib cage and was treated by physics. On the next delivery, which was a free hit, Samson attacked it for a long time, but felt extremely painful and decided to leave the field.
He missed a subsequent match with the Super Giants in Lucknow and did not travel to Bengaluru due to a clash with royal challenger Bengaluru.
Speaking about Samson at a pre-match press conference, RR head coach Rahul Dravid said he didn’t make it clear that the medical team would play for him and advised him not to risk injury from the trip.
Hopefully he’ll be back soon – Liyan Parag
Speaking in the toss, Liyan Parag first spoke about the pitch and revealed how it behaves. He said:
“We bowl first. When we stepped up, the wickets were a little sticky. It gets better as the game progresses. It’s about ethics. You have to keep on doing the right thing and the results continue.
Riyan Parag also revealed that Sanju Samson is shedding tears on his side, adding that he doesn’t know when the RR skipper will return.
“Sanju Bhai is recovering. I take a game by game. He sheds tears. Hopefully he’ll come back soon. Just one change.
When Sanju isn’t there, the team is halfway – AakashChopra
Speaking on his YouTube channel ahead of the match, former India offensive Aakash Chopra said Samson’s absence was a major blow to the team. He explained in detail:
“It’s a royal encounter – RCB vs. RR. Both are ‘royal’ teams. The simple story of the Royal Team is that there is no Sanju. When Sanju isn’t there, the team is half. Batting doesn’t work.
“Dhruv Jurel can’t finish the match. Shimron Hetmyer, the only overseas batsman, can’t finish the match. Yashasvi (Jaiswal) score comes out at the wrong time.
