Under Stephen Curry’s leadership, the Golden State Warriors have experienced incredible success.
The most notable examples of Stephen Curry’s influence are the four NBA championships for the Golden State Warriors.
But if there was one season in which the Warriors missed out on the fairytale outcome, it was the 2015-16 campaign. Yes, it was the same season that the Warriors had a 73-9 record, but lost the NBA Finals.
Before the Warriors, the record was held by the Chicago Bulls in 1995-96, winning 72 regular season games. Come to think of it, many people compare the two sides with a hypothetical matchup.
NBA legend Scotty Pippen was a member of the 1995-96 Bulls roster. In fact, he was a key contributor to the Bulls’ six NBA championships of that era.
Although Pippen has retired from the NBA, he often shares his honest opinion on hypothetical matches with the Bulls. The 6x NBA champion did it again in an interview with Marca.
“The 90s rules? Steph Curry isn’t the same player. When we play in their time it’s like getting out of prison. You’ve got freedom. No one’s knocking you on the floor,” Pippen said of the Bulls vs Warriors battle.
In a hypothetical matchup, there is no doubt that Curry will become the most important player for the Warriors. But Pippen believes that this is only the case if a fight arises in modern times.
In the 1990s, when the game was more physical, the sparkle of curry would not have saved Dub from defeat.
Pippen admitted that if bulls face them in the modern era, curry-led warriors will be on top.
Plus, Pippen compared the two eras, and, surprisingly, he praised the modern-day NBA star.
“They’re bigger, they’re stronger, they’re faster. I don’t want to say it’s even more physical. I think basketball in the late ’80s and early ’90s was physical enough that it could get,” Pippen continued.
“I don’t think today’s game is as physical as it was back then, due to the hard fouls you were allowed to give,” Pippen said.
In many cases, retired NBA players tend to label modern players as soft. However, Pippen praised both eras with respect, and this is not seen at all.
