What began as a typical night in the neighborhood turned into a dramatic moment for former two-division UFC champion Henry Sejude on Friday.
Sejude was outside the Phoenix home with his producer Dylan Rush, so he said a vehicle that traveled at a speed that was estimated to be between 80 and 100 mph in one of his neighbor’s homes.
Cejudo said the driver tried to free the scene and when other passengers tried to follow, Cejudo said he and the homeowner took steps to detain them, grounding and detaining one of the suspects until police arrived.
“In this room, if someone stands there, they’ll be dead. All of these kids are lucky to be alive,” Sejudo said in a statement shared with MMA Junkies. “After they left, I told them, ‘Hey, you guys aren’t going anywhere’ The owner of this house tried to stop them and you said you need to be responsible for my neighbor.
“Almost all of my neighbors came to fight the situation. I lifted him up, dropped him, slapped him a bit, almost controlled him.”
Sejude said seeing the damage to a friend’s home was “devastating” and that a block party happened with the kids earlier in the day on the same street where the accident occurred.
“If it was a few hours ago, someone would be seriously injured,” Sejudo said.
