Serhiy Sidey confused his impression with grappling to win a solid three-round victory over Cameron Smotherman at UFC Des Moines on Saturday night.
Sidey shed light on his feet while Smotherman continued to plant on the mat and tried to tee up some power shots. After a relatively late start in the opening round, Sideley closed the distance and pulled his son miner back into the fence. However, it didn’t take long for the choking man to separate and return to the centre of the octaton.
Sidey seemed to make the exchange better, but neither fighter landed anything notable throughout the rest of the round.
After standing for the entire first five minutes, Sidely scored a quick takedown in the second. He temporarily took the choking man to the mat, but the “baby face killer” walls returned with relatively easy access.
Just over 90 seconds to get to the second stanza, Sidely shot another takedown and a muscular choking man towards the mat. Smotherman returned, but Sidey kept control and put Smotherman back on the mat twice more before the central round ended.
With success on the mat, it’s not surprising that Saidy took a picture early on the third time. As Smotherman tried to scramble, he was wrapped in a D’Arce Choke with his neck open. Sidey locked it, but Smotherman defended well, forcing Sidey to abandon the hold.
Smotherman seemed to put pressure back on his feet, knowing that he was likely lying down on the scorecard.
Unfortunately, Smotherman couldn’t find a knockout shot and took him to the scorecard where Sidey walked away with a decisive victory.
