LeBron James has been suffering from sciatica in his back and missed the Los Angeles Lakers’ first five games.
LeBron James is not expected to return to the Los Angeles Lakers lineup until mid-November at the earliest.
Even with James out, the Lakers are still off to a 3-2 start. Luka Doncic appeared in the first two games of the season, but was sidelined with a sprained finger on his left hand and a contusion in his left lower leg.
However, Austin Reeves has been able to steer the ship to Los Angeles and is off to a strong start.
James missing the early part of the season means the Lakers need to be fresh to stay strong.
Shaquille O’Neal is looking forward to seeing what James can do in 30 to 45 games after being fully rested.
The former Lakers superstar expects James to be in the NBA Finals again with Los Angeles.
“A Cinderella-like season and at least one more trip to the Finals.
“I’d like to see him for 30 to 45 games in a row and really see what that’s like.
“Once you get into the playoffs, anything can happen.”
For the first time in James’ 23-year career, he had to miss the season opener.
The 40-year-old knows his retirement is near and the time he has left is crucial.
However, James is taking a cautious approach to injury. While James was out, he inspired teammates Reaves and Doncic in the X’s.
If James is cleared to return, it would give the Lakers a chance to find their groove as they compete for a title in the new year.
