Premier League legend Alan Shearer absolutely tore Manchester United into the shred after the final Europa League defeat to Tottenham last night.
It was a disastrous campaign at Old Trafford, with Man UTD falling all the way down in 16th place in the Premier League table, missing out on his only shot at Silverware.
Erik Ten Hag was fired as manager at the beginning of the season, but Ruben Amorim only got worse, and Shearer wasn’t impressed with the club’s overall situation.
Critics were torn apart by Amorim’s poor tactics against the Spurs last night, and issued a warning to the club before the summer transfer period.
Alan Shearer’s brutal message to Manchester United
Now discussing United’s status, Shearer admitted he can’t see the big players who want to go there.
Talking about the rest is on the football podcast, Shearer said:
“I’ll tell you something, Man United was embarrassed tonight and in the semi-finals – they hopelessly chucked a 6-foot-5 center half-up, bringing a huge ball into the box.
“Is that what they’re going to get out of trouble? They’re millions of miles on and off the pitch, so I don’t know how they’re going to get out of it from now on.
“How will they attract top players this summer? Can they even pay for them now that they’re not in the Champions League? Why do big companies want to go there?”
He added: “It’s not just the pitch, but also the pitch. They’ve been monumentally ruined on and off the pitch this season, and it’s been a complete and total embarrassment.”
A difficult time for Man United
It’s certainly hard to imagine United coming close to turning this around, but this summer’s transfer window is certainly important.
This underachieved team needs many changes and there may be some question marks about Amorim’s future as a manager.
In the posthumous Alex Ferguson era, things have just gotten worse from evil, and so many poor decisions have been made along the way, making it difficult to know what is needed to change this terrible trend.
