This kind of thing is a small opportunity to sign players before the Club World Cup, and although it is unclear what deals will be made in the nine-day space, Chelsea knows exactly which areas they want to bolster.
According to journalist Simon Phillips, Chelsea is most keen to acquire new centre-backs, wingers and strikers, and the addition of another centre-back/left-back has not been ruled out assaulting midfielders and goalkeepers, depending on player sales and Champions League qualifiers.
Also, President Todd Bourley has personally expressed his desire to bring in more versatile players and invite more versatile players to combat potential injury absences next season, according to Phillips, and one player who fits the bill in this regard is Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers.
The British are one of Emery’s players of the season, earning 14 goals and 13 assists in all competitions, with a considerable number of them coming to the Champions League.
As expected, Rogers has been attracting attention from his rivals as a result, urging the villa to win a price of £90 million on the head of the attacker.
The 22-year-old can play on the wing and even centre-forward as an offensive midfielder – just like he played Arsenal and Leicester this season, especially at the beginning of 2024/2025.
Joe Shields drives Chelsea and moves for Morgan Rogers
The point of sticking is clearly his sky high tag, but reporter Phillips says there is hope through his substance that Villa can sell him, taking into account PSR concerns.
He also says that the Shields are personally driving Rogers’ Chelsea moves, so they might keep an eye on this.
“Source says Chelsea is ‘big’ at Morgan Rodgers and will not only monitor the potential moves that will take him in PSR situations this summer,” Phillips said.
“I’ve heard that Joe Shields is a huge Rogers fan and is spurring interest. Of course, there’s a Manchester City connection. I know that Rogers is intimate with Cole Palmer.
“Rodgers, who will turn 23 in July, can play in many positions, including the left side. Sources believe he is a great option at the center, not only targeting the left role.
“At this point, Villa is asking him too much, but it means that if they can’t sell other players, they may need to lower the asking price.”
Several reports suggest that Arsenal is also lined up for Rogers’ move, so Chelsea could face competition.
