There was a surprising update on the future of West Ham United midfielder Guido Rodriguez.
Argentina only joined the Hammer last summer, but his future appears to be seriously suspected after a disappointing campaign at London Stadium.
Reports say Rodriguez is currently in line to return to his previous Club River Plate.
The South American giants are said to be keen to land the 30-year-old in time for the summer FIFA Club World Cup tournament, so the deal could be made earlier than expected.
There’s an extra transfer window just before that race begins, and West Ham may give him the opportunity to offload Rodriguez earlier than expected.
Guido Rodriguez certainly needs to leave West Ham
Rodriguez had almost a fairly solid career, but for some reason it didn’t happen in British football for him.
It certainly makes sense for WHUFC to offload him as soon as possible, so we would welcome the interest of the River Plate.
Rodriguez began his career in the river, and later he really named the real Betis in La Liga.
Rodriguez also has 30 caps for Argentina and is part of the 2022 World Cup winner in Qatar.
However, this looks like a potential deal that could suit everyone involved, as West Ham certainly needs to rebuild without him and start a fresh start next season.
I imagine things aren’t nearing conclusive yet, but this is certainly a deal that we can expect West Ham supporters to be too long.
