Roberts said Otani’s pitching debut could compete with the San Diego Padres, a series that begins Monday. Otani acted as the ‘ opener, and the team later confirmed that they would take the mound on Monday.
“Shohei is feeling uneasy,” Roberts said Sunday. “He’s ready to pitch in a big league game. I’m guessing my innings will begin.”
The were highly calculated with Otani’s accumulation, with many injuries to rotations not affecting the two-way star’s timeline. The team announced via social media that Otani will pitch on Monday for the first time this season.
“Shohei Ohtani will be the starting pitcher for the Los Angeles against the San Diego Padres tomorrow night,” the said at X.
However, the announcement is somewhat surprising given the general consensus that Ohatani will one day take the mound before or after the All-Star break in July.
