Ohtani may not pitch the until he approaches an All-Star break, according to Gabe Lackes of USA Today. Realistically, the ‘ priorities over Otani are to be ready to pitch in the postseason.
Manager Dave Roberts explained that the organization was at “Lockstep” with Otani for slowing pitching.
“I think he understands that it’s a collective decision and that the goal is to make sure that the end of the season and into October, fire on all cylinders,” Roberts said. “We’re in Rockstep, so in that sense I don’t think there’s any anxiety, anxiety or frustration in Shoe Hei.”
Blake Snell is currently on the injured list, but given the richness of his pitching depth, the don’t need Otani exactly.
Tony Gonzolin is still back from his injury, but should be back relatively soon. The will probably use a six-man rotation to move forward. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Grasnow, Sasaki and Dustin are four major starters in LA, but the recently used spot starters to fill the next two slots in the rotation.
On a trip to the East Coast, the called out Justin Wobleski and Landon Knuck. This week, the will probably use Knack and Bobby Miller. The also have Clayton Kershaw, who is potentially planning to return sometime in May.
Fans are excited to see Otani return to the mound, but the have taken a careful approach. Therefore, he may not debut on the mound for a while.
