Three-time MVP Shohei Ohtani continues to do things the world of baseball has never seen before.
Ahead of the ‘ opening day contest in Japan in Los Angeles, Otani was honored for his own character in the hugely popular video game, Fortnite.

After winning the World Series ring in his first season in LA and becoming the first player in MLB history to hit more than 50 home runs and steal more than 50 bases in the season, Ohtani was first set up to be given his own character as the first baseball player in Fortnite.
He joined LeBron James, Lionel Messi, Patrick Mahomes and other world-renowned athletes, and obtained “skins” in the game for users to play.
Otani is honored to be linked to such companies in popular video games.
“To be honest, I’m extremely honored,” Ohtani said at Tom Verducci on Si.com. “Obviously there are so many great players out there. It’s a real honor to be selected as ambassador for this world-renowned game.”
Once he joins the exclusive list, he also revealed the possibility of returning to playing Fortnite.
“I haven’t been able to play much lately,” the MVP said. “I played more in the past. I played with my teammates. Obviously I can communicate with my teammates. So it’s a great experience playing games with my teammates.
Even the trivial things like video games can help Otani find ways to improve teammate synergy and improve communication around the clubhouse.
The Ohtani character in Fortnite comes with a ‘ house and away uniform, a LEGO version of the slugger, a samurai outfit, and even a bobblehead based on Otani’s beloved dog, decoy.
