Otani began to dominate a superhero-esque rule over the baseball world in 2013 when he began playing professionally in Japan. He not only made 18 appearances as a pitcher during his rookie season, but also raised eyebrows with his abilities.
After doing a few seasons the baseball world has never seen before over a century, Otani headed for MLB and signed with the Los Angeles Angels ahead of the 2018 season. He pitched a 3.01 ERA for Anaheim over five seasons. This reached fourth in the Cy Young Award poll. He also won the American League MVP Award pair during his six seasons with Hello.
Prior to the 2024 campaign, Otani became a member of the and made a 10-year, $700 million mega-trade. He somehow surpassed all of his sky expectations in his first year, despite being sidelined from pitching for the second Tommy John procedure the previous year.
Otani won his third MVP award and became the first player in MLB history to bring together over 50 home runs and over 50 stolen basses in the same season, as well as helping secure the eighth World Series Championship in franchise history in the first season of jam packing in LA.
The have many stars on their roster and have had countless Hall of Fame inductees over the years, but perhaps none of the other players are as close to superheroes as Otani.
