“It turns out that Schreyas is just taking a break and will work hard on his fitness and will call in the coming months. He had back surgery in April 2023 and felt uncomfortable with the Durep Trophy earlier this month,” the report read.

This decision could also affect his participation in Mumbai’s upcoming Ranji Trophy season. Iyer had previously asked the Mumbai Selector not to consider him for Ranji Captaincy after Ajinkya Rahane resigned from the role.
In the first half of the series, Iyer led India in his first unofficial Test at Lucknow, but he scored just eight runs in his only innings, and the match ended in a draw. The two-match Test series against the West Indies will begin on October 2nd in Ahmedabad.

Shrayas Iyer is an intermediate attack that is important for India beyond format. He played 14 Test matches, scoring 811 runs averaged 36.86, including the first century and the 50s, and scored a top score of 105 in his debut against New Zealand in 2021.
Iyer has been featured in 70 ODI games, earning 2,845 runs on an average of 48.22 and a strike rate of 100.00, earning him in his 50s for the fifth century and 22 years. He was also part of India’s victorious 2025 Champions Trophy team under Rohit Sharma.
The Mumbai batsman has played 51 T20I matches since his debut against New Zealand in November 2017. He averaged 30.66 and recorded a strike rate of 1,104 runs, including 136.12, including the ’80s. The batter was not included in the ongoing Asian Cup 2025 team.
