Former Indian player Sunil Gavaskar is a supporter of IPL as the IPL stage is the perfect stage for learning leadership skills on the ground. Shubman Gill currently has no experience in international leadership. He needs more experience before taking over as national captain.
The Gujarat Titans gills are expected to become the new skipper for India’s Test team on England’s next tour in June. Reports say Pants will be his agent in the red ball format.

Sunil Gabasker of inexperienced Shubman Gill
Indian greats discuss Shubman Gill’s inexperience and after the retirement of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, India may face challenges in the red ball format.
Gavaskar added that Gill needs at least one or two years of experience to become a finished product of Test cricket.
Gavaskar also advised the other two young stars alongside the captain, including Rishabh Pant and Shrayas Iyer.
“It would take several years to reach the level of super captains. They all brought a different approach to captains,” Gavaskar said of Star Sports.
These three young players each captain their side in IPL 2025, all three of them have been leading their side well this season.
Sunil Gavaskar’s advice for Gill, Pant and Iyer
The next three potential candidates for Indian captain have been advised by Gavaskar to work well in IPL.
He believes the pressure in the T20 game is unparalleled, with all three being the major franchises of IPL 2025.
Shubman Gill leads the Gujarat Titans, while Pants leads the Lucknow Super Giants, while Aier captains the King of Punjab. These three are potential skippers for the Indian team.
In the same program that Gavaskar spoke about Captaincy’s different perspectives. Suresh Raina also emphasized the importance of winning the IPL as a skipper before taking on citizen duties.
Suresh Raina’s statement regarding CaptainCy’s next candidate
He says Shubman Gill is a front runner, but Gill is looking for his first IPL trophy as captain. If you want to start your job in Test cricket, you will need to win an IPL title to pay respect in the dressing room despite having little experience in Test cricket.
“Now there are no Virats or Rohits. They once looked at the opposite side of the eyes and put pressure on them. It has energy, personality and body language. Shubman has it. Even Hardik Pandya has it.”
He also added Rajat Patidar to the next candidate for Indian team captain, but he hasn’t done much of a captain on the big stage, so he has to prove himself above Gill.
