Indian test captain Shabmangir revealed the inspiration and philosophy that shaped his career from Punjab to international cricket. Shubman Gill shares insights into his growth in cricket, his love for Apple Music, and his thinking to deal with pressure at the highest level.

Right-handed batsman also reflects on his recent Test series against India. Gill described the tour of England as a “stricken challenge” and explained how high levels of cricket demand both skill and mental strength.

He said talent needs drive, focus and passion to make it bigger at the highest level. Gill said he learned these important qualities by looking at Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli.

The Indian vice captain, T20I, revealed that he began to look closely at Kohli around 2011-2013, was deeply inspired by his fierce passion, strength, dedication and unrelenting willingness to succeed.

Shubman Gill said on an Apple Music podcast: “Talent and skill is one, but if you don’t have driving and passion, that doesn’t matter. 2011-2013) was when I started following Virat Kohli closely.

You can learn all the skills and all the techniques, but hunger is something you have or not. Virat had it in abundance, so it really inspired me. ”

Shubman Gill opens about his idol

The captain of the Gujarat Titans also revealed that he grew up idolizing Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. He shared that Tendulkar is his father’s favorite and started the game for him.

Gil added, “I had two idols. The first idol was Sachin Tendulkar. He was my father’s favorite. I actually went into cricket for him.

Captaincy’s Shubman Gill philosophy and secrets about how pressure is handled have been revealed

As captain, he developed his own leadership style, influenced by philosophy, particularly Stoicism. Gill compared his performance with honey-making bees, revealing that he focused on the process rather than recognition, and stressed his sincere and dedicated work, without asking for applause. “I want to do my part with sincerity and honesty, without asking for gratitude.”

The Punjabi youth said this idea would help him to deal with pressure, adhere to discipline and perform consistently at the highest level. Speaking about his love for music, Gill said he loves to listen to classic songs that help him stay calm and focused before a match.

Shubman Gill was impressed with his T20I comeback

In particular, Gil is currently in the United Arab Emirates. Team India is playing in the ongoing Asian Cup 2025. He made a comeback to the T20I team a year later with a nine-wicket victory for the UAE at the Asian Cup 2025 opener.

Gill and the Men in Blue are currently preparing to face Pakistan in the next Asian Cup 2025 clash in Dubai on Sunday, September 14th, with the final league match against Oman on September 19th.
