It took him a little over a week for his right-hander to return to the organization after he was designated for assignment earlier this month and was subsequently released.
Throughout his time at Triple A Oklahoma City this season, Sauer had a 5.86 ERA on 18 outings, of which 17 started. During this time he roamed 79 batters 28 times over 80 innings work.
Sauer cracked his first day’s roster and first appeared in Blue during an exhibition game throughout the Tokyo Series, starting the season. He had an ERA of 1.54 during his first four appearances, earning victory and saves in those helpless 11.2 innings.
Things will unfortunately fall for Sauer as he allowed 19 in the final 18 innings on the mound.
Matt Soher’s Career
Sauer was originally his second draft pick from the New York Yankees in the 2017 MLB Draft, but was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the second pick of the 2023 Rule 5 Draft. He made 14 appearances for the Royals with 14 releases last season, earning a 7.71 ERA in 16.1 innings total.
After being returned to the Yankees during the 2024 campaign, he selected an offseason free agency and will be hidden by MILB before signing a minor league contract with the this January.
Regardless of where his role is heading, Sauer wants to make the most of his next opportunity. He’s unlikely to get another opportunity this season, but he hopes to audition for either LA or another team before next season.
