It’s been a tough year for Conor McGregor.
On Tuesday, ESPN announced that the Irish megastar violated the UFC’s anti-doping policy and was suspended for 18 months. The report said Mr McGregor failed to complete “three attempted biological sample collections within 12 months in 2024”.
The turn of events was a somewhat surprising development, considering McGregor recently claimed he would return to the Octagon next summer when the UFC stages a historic bout at the White House.
Needless to say, this news sparked a lot of reactions from fans.
One user wrote: “LOL, that’s one way to avoid getting a positive test. Just don’t get tested in bulk.”
“No way! Connor would never do that!” added another.
“Yeah he definitely won’t fight again,” a third posted.
Check out more reactions below.
Since his violation last year, McGregor’s period of disqualification is actually scheduled to begin on September 20, 2024 and end on March 20, 2026. That means McGregor is still eligible to compete on June 14th in Washington, D.C.
“Now that he’s had time to absorb the shock of this news, I think he was really lucky that he managed to get his suspension done in enough time to be eligible to compete on Donald Trump’s Birthday Bash Dana White House Card,” one user added. “That’s a happy coincidence!”
Khabib Nurmagomedov reacts to Conor McGregor’s suspension
Perhaps the most hilarious response came from McGregor’s fiercest rival, Khabib Nurmagomedov. ‘The Eagle’ reposted the ESPN news article on Instagram, but made sure to decapitate the former champion from the post.
What do you think of Mr. McGregor’s latest gaffe?
