If Arsenal still wanted to win the Premier League title this season, they certainly vanished on Saturday. Mikel Arteta’s side had made progress at Goodison Park courtesy of the opener of Leandoro Torosad, but that was cancelled after halftime when Iliman Ndiai scored the net from the penalty spot.

The game was another example of Arsenal’s desperate need for a new striker, but there were also major complaints about the penalty that Everton was awarded. Miles Lewis Skelly was determined to foul Jack Harrison just within the area, as umpire Darren England called out.

Fans across the country have denounced England and the VAR team, particularly Arsenal, for the persuasion decision. Arteta was equally frustrated and furious about this decision, and now the judge’s perspective on the issue has been revealed.

Former referee Mike Dean spoke about his penalty decision at Goodison Park during Sky Sports’ soccer Saturday program, according to TBR Football.

“There’s a bit of contact outside and a bit of contact inside. I think it’s soft. I’m not wrong, but it’s soft.”

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Michael Dawson also spoke about the football incident on Saturday, and he was making the UK’s decision much more stringent.

“I don’t know why Lewis Skelly isn’t going to attack it… Harrison gets the wrong side of him. I think this is grossly soft, but I think he went to Val… I know why he was given it in real time.

Ultimately, that was another disappointing result for Arsenal, not setting them up very well against Real Madrid in Tuesday’s first Champions League quarterfinals.
