As first reported by the Daily Briefing, Chelsea have contacted Crystal Palace right-back Daniel Muñoz through an intermediary regarding a potential short-notice transfer.
The Blues are competing with Barcelona in the race for Muñoz, but sources suggest Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain are also interested.
Munoz has had a brilliant spell at Palace and seems more than capable of making the step up to a bigger club.
Chelsea and Barça, on the other hand, probably feel they can sign Muñoz on the cheap, with the Colombian international potentially costing around €30 million.
What sources have said about Daniel Muñoz’s possible move to Chelsea or Barcelona
Speaking to industry sources today, they were told that while “both Chelsea and Barça have communicated their interest in Muñoz through intermediaries”, an offer could happen in 2026.
For Chelsea, that could come in January as they want to add depth to their squad and are aware of Reece James’ poor injury record.
Barcelona, on the other hand, need to be careful with their spending and will likely wait until the summer to sign Muñoz, who suits their transfer strategy.
Could Crystal Palace sell another key player?
It’s true that Palace don’t want to lose a key player like Munoz, but they have recently shown that they are willing to part ways with big names if the money is right.
The Eagles sold Eberechi Eze to Arsenal this summer, while Michael Olise left for Bayern Munich just over a year ago.
Muñoz could be next in line after his impressive performance at Selhurst Park, but it would not be ideal for this to come while Marc Guehi is also nearing the end of his contract.
One imagines that Palace also have reason to fear losing impressive manager Oliver Glasner, who has done a great job and is sure to attract the attention of big clubs.
