Chelsea are competing with Arsenal over the possibility of Barcelona’s defensive midfielder Marc Cassad in January this year.
As reported in our daily briefings first here (Subscribe (Click here for the full article) The Blues are said to have been strongly interested in the 22-year-old as a “smart investment destination.”
Arsenal and other Premier League clubs are also fans of Cassad and could potentially be acquired.
According to sources, Barça could offer Cassad a place of around 30-35 million euros, and in the current sense, Chelsea will be testing their luck this winter to close the deal.
Chelsea has been interested in Marc Cassad for many years.
Chelsea offered Barcelona to sign Fermin Lopez in the summer, and it appears that the signing of Cassad was also a hot topic.
The West London giants have turned down an offer to acquire Lopez, but Barcelona appears willing to let Cassad go for the right price.
Catalan strong teams face financial problems and need to keep up with the rules to stay in the right position of the Financial Fair Play Act.
It could also give way to Cassad, which could be an exciting opportunity for Chelsea.
What can Cassad bring to Chelsea and Arsenal?
Cassad may not have established himself as the first choice in Barcelona, but at Stamford Bridge, he could add a key layer behind Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez.
Enzo Maresca is currently the only one in place of the two, and during his time at Chelsea he was extremely prone to injury.
Meanwhile, Arsenal may want to acquire a long-term replacement for Christian Norgaard in the near future.
Norgaard joined from Brentford this summer, but due to his age he doesn’t think he’s a particularly long-term option, and he hasn’t gotten much of a chance from Mikel Arteta so far.
