Tottenham Hotspur’s disastrous Premier League campaign continued with a disappointing 4-2 defeat to the Wolverhampton Wanderers, who were away from their home on Sunday.
Vitor Pereira’s team has been fighting relegation all season, moving within two points of the Spurs in an impressive weekend victory.
As you can see from the highlights above, the goals were not open to quality play, but rather reliant heavily on poor work from a few Tottenham players.
It’s not hidden from the fact that this season hasn’t been enough defensively this season, as Ange Postecoglou’s side has confirmed 49 goals in 32 games this season.
However, as you can see from the graphics above, it was one of Dominix Solanke, one of Tottenham’s offensive players who was one of the worst performers against the wolves on Sunday.
England International joined the club from Bournemouth with a reporting fee of £55 million and earned another £10 million with potential add-ons, enduring its frustrating first season in North London.
Why was Dominique Solanke a flop for Spurs?
For the money spent on him last year, Tottenham should expect immediate quality from a 27-year-old marksman in his first year at the club.
Solanke arrived as an experienced 26-year-old player at the time of his move, and there was plenty of Premier League football for Bournemouth. That means they didn’t have to adapt to the league or country to appear in the Spurs.
Nevertheless, the UK’s DUD failed to score on a consistent base on a post-coglue basis, with just 11 goals returning in 37 matches in all competitions.
The former Bournemouth star averages below goals every three games. This spoke of his lack of ruthlessness in the final third, and was also in the Premier League.

As you can see from the table above, Solanke has only scored seven goals on the Spurs’ 23 Premier League field trip this season, falling below XG with around three goals.
Goals every 290 minutes and ratings of £65 million, Prime Age and centre forward negative XG differentials are not enough. So it is reported that the club is trying to bolster its offense before this season.
Spurs are willing to spend big time as a Premier League star
According to reports from Spain, the Spurs are one of many clubs interested in a contract to sign Wolverhampton attacker Matthews Cunha in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The outlet claims that six Premier League teams have expressed interest in Brazil International and faced Tottenham in their 4-2 victory on Sunday.

Mega Money deals, controversial moves, famous flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinions across Football FanCust.
It has been revealed that Aston Villa, Spurs, Newcastle United, Arsenal, Manchester United and Nottingham Forest are all watching the former Atletico Madrid star’s dive.
The report says it is willing to spend heavily on Brazilian dynamos as the Premier League side is ready to pay £75 million to land an impressive attacker ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
However, he does not argue whether the wolf is willing to say goodbye to him for £75 million, or whether Cunha is interested in joining Tottenham, or any other team reportedly interested in him.
The Spurs must push to convince them to join this summer.
Why Cunha is a massive upgrade to Solanke
The £75 million star will improve Tottenham’s team in the Premier League this season, based on the wolves’ form currently under the Spurs at the table.
Cunha scored 14 goals from 7.27 xg on the top flight of Old Gold. This means he scored twice as much as Solanke’s goal despite the lack of high-quality XG chances to find the back of the net.
This shows him being a ruthless finisher who doesn’t need many high-quality opportunities to score goals at the Premier League level, but this is not the case with the former Bournemouth forward.
As you can see from the above goals, this was described as “Bergkamp-style” by Pandit Ashley Williams, so the Brazilian magician has the ability to score an amazing goal with a third.
These statistics and the nature of the wolf’s goal suggest that he will be an upgrade for Solanke as a goal threat.
24/25 Premier League | Dominique Solanke | Matheus Cunha |

start | twenty three | twenty four |
xg | 9.92 | 7.27 |

Key Passes for each game | 0.6 | 1.7 |

As you can see in the table above, Cunha is significantly outperforming the £65 million Spurs signature, which failed to deliver consistent quality as a top-light scorer or goal creator this term.
These statistics suggest that wolves’ senses provide more creativity at the top of the pitch.
So, £75 million – only £10 million over Solanke’s agreement – could be a bargain for the Spurs if he could win his signature race in the summer transfer window.
