Stephen Curry talked about his Golden State Warriors team heading into the new season and how it will be different from the team that won a title in 2022.
The Golden State Warriors are gunning for that elusive fifth NBA championship. Winning the NBA title for the fifth time in 11 years since winning the first one is quite an accomplishment.
As it stands, the Warriors’ roster appears to be in place. The big three of Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green will likely lead the charge.
Young stars like L.J. Cryer and Will Richard have impressed the Warriors’ coaching staff and will be expected to contribute.
But Stephen Curry says the team has a lot in common with the 2022 NBA champion team, aside from the presence of Jimmy Butler, who brings a new element to the team.
Stephen Curry spoke to ESPN’s Marika Andrews ahead of the new NBA season. The superstar is confident about the Golden State Warriors’ championship aspirations.
He compared the current roster to the 2022 NBA Championship roster in terms of confidence in other teams. But he believes Jimmy Butler gives them something unique that will benefit them.
“I feel like if we compete from toe to toe and top to bottom, we match up well with anybody, and we just want a chance to show that in the playoffs.
“When we won in 2022, if you had told me in training camp that this team was going to win it all, I would have believed it.
“I think there’s a little bit of similarity here. But Jimmy added a different dynamic that we didn’t even have at the time. So I’m looking forward to seeing it through to the end.”
The Golden State Warriors didn’t trade Jimmy Butler for what he could bring to the regular season. It was his heroics in the playoffs that made him an attractive addition.
From 2020 to 2023, Jimmy Butler led a not-so-great Miami Heat team to three Eastern Conference Finals and two NBA Finals.
If Butler can do it with an average supporting cast, the idea of him playing alongside two of the greatest champions of all time, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, is very appealing.
Butler and the Warriors could be a dangerous team in the playoffs, regardless of their regular-season seeding. We saw this when the seventh-seeded Warriors defeated the second-seeded Houston Rockets in the first round.
