Endicott, NY — Steve Allan became the first wire-to-wire winner in Dick’s Sports Goods Open History on Sunday, earning a four-stroke victory with a 6-under 66.
Alan finished at the Enjoy Golf Course at 18 under 198 for the second PGA Tour champion victory of the season. The 51-year-old Australian opened on Friday with a two-shot edge at 63 and scored 69 on Saturday, bringing Boo Weekly into the final round.
After playing the first seven holes on Sunday in one, with two birdies and bogeys, Alan birded five of the next six, interpreting the last five.
“It was tough. It was tough yesterday too. It was hanging out there, but early today the driver was a bit rough,” Alan said. “In the rough, it was just hanging out there. Then we made some putts in the back nine.”
He also won the Galleri Classic at Mission Hills in Rancho Mirage, California in late March.
Jason Carron is 68. Weekley (70) and Notah Begay III (67) were second after finishing third at 13 under, while Soren Kjeldsen (64) had another stroke with Michael Wright (67) and Jeff Sluman (68).
Padraig Harrington has not tried to win four times in a row. I skipped the event to play at the Scotland Open. He also has an Open Championship at the Royal Port Rush and holds a Senior Open Championship at the Royal Port Rush.
Ernie Els, who is in the open field, shot a 69 and finished 16th at 8 under.
