The Golden State Warriors suffered their first loss of the preseason campaign.
The Golden State Warriors, led by Steve Kerr, were held off by the rival Los Angeles Lakers.
Despite losing by 10 points, there was one player who impressed Coach Kerr. It was none other than Jonathan Kuminga.
Although Carr and Kuminga have their differences, they seem to have managed to put them aside, at least in the hardwood forest.
Kerr proved that when he praised Kuminga’s playmaking in the 126-116 loss to the Lakers in the absence of Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler.
“I think he’s had a really good passing camp. He’s been doing that in scrimmages as well, seeing the floor well and making really great reads,” Kerr said.
He added: “It’s part of his game and it’s definitely improving.”
For context, Kuminga finished the night with six assists. Kuminga added 13 points to the Warriors’ tally despite not being able to grab a single rebound.
The Warriors will expect a similar stat line from the 23-year-old during the regular season.
The biggest concern for the Warriors heading into the 2025-26 NBA season is Kuminga’s future. He signed a two-year contract this summer after a ridiculous amount of back and forth.
However, Kuminga is still expected to be traded by the Warriors sooner or later. Despite these rumors, Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy had nothing but confidence in Kuminga.
It’s still the offseason, but Kuminga had a great playmaking night against the Purple and Gold, proving the GM right.
After all, this is a new addition to his skill set, as evidenced by his career average of just 2.2 assists per game.
