Former NBA star Kendrick Perkins made a strong comparison as the Golden State Warriors star is frozen.
Steve Kerr will be remembered as one of the great NBA coaches for his feat with the Golden State Warriors.
And in the summer of 2024, he added his legacy by leading Team USA to win gold medals at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Stephen Curry was key to his victory in both, but at the Olympics it was Carr’s omitted Jason Tatum that was a constant storyline during the gold medal run.
Carr claimed he didn’t enjoy not choosing Tatum, but he didn’t regret Team USA succeeding in the decision he ultimately made.
Now, one of his current decisions is compared to the choice to remove his opinion that Tatum overlooks Tatum when it matters.
Steve Kerr chose not to face Jonathan Cuminga against the La Clippers, and after the Warriors lost, he was expected to remember the stars.
Then, when the Warriors faced the Memphis Grizzlies in another must-see game, this time in a play-in tournament, Jonathan Kuminga was once again DNP.
The decision has become a real topic, and at the post-game sports center, Kendrick Perkins asked Kerr to put his pride aside and remember Kuminga.
Speaking on The Road Trippin’ Podcast, Perkins compared this situation to the Olympics’ Jayson Tatum scenario.
He exploded.
“You go to the guy you drafted in the lottery and tell him, ‘You’re not going to play.’
“You might need him, Draymond said yesterday, “We’re going to need Kuminga in this series.” ”
He added that while Kuminga might not be easy to return to top form, he would be impressed with him if he were to do so and that his beliefs would require him in the playoffs.
“Now you ask him to switch on and praise him if he turns it on.
“If Jonathan Cuminga doesn’t play in this Rockets Series, the Rockets will beat Golden State.”
Former star Channing Frye offered his views, believing that Jonathan Cuminga was not suited to Kerr’s basketball philosophy.
However, he pushed back his comparison to the Boston Celtics superstar. “We won’t compare Jason Tatum’s situation to this.”
Perkins added that he feels irrelevant, Kuminga is the player to play for the Warriors in the playoffs.
“I believe you can get more and more from Jonathan Cuminga. I believe he is worth it, not responsible.”
