Golden State Warriors signed Alhorford in a two-year, $12 million deal.
Player options will be included in the second year of Al Horford’s contract as the 39-year-old closes his career by winning another championship.
Al Horford offers the Golden State Warriors much needed sizes in their starting lineup, with valuable floor spacing with the ability to hit three-point shots.
Horford fits perfectly alongside Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green.
Horford’s addition to the Warriors will be huge, especially after the team lost Kevon Rooney, who signed with the New Orleans Pelican in free agency.
He didn’t provide the floor spacing that Horford brings, but Rooney was a strong rebounder, a solid internal defense, and he was an important locker room presence.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr spoke about losing Rooney and the positive reputation of Horford’s locker room will be a major factor this season.
“I texted me to the people in Boston, I call me and rave about how much he means.
“We need it without (rooney). We lost the rune, we lost a part of our soul.”
After the Warriors and Jonathan Cuminga agreed to a new deal, Golden State was able to fill in the rest of their roster.
The Warriors have officially signed Horford, DeAnthony Melton and Seth Curry.
Curry has signed an exhibit 9 contract. This means he will be with the Warriors throughout all training camps, then abandoned before the start of the season. The Warriors can then re-sign him after November 15th.
Without Curry and Melton (ACL) to start the season, Stephen Curry and Buddy Heald will start in the backcourt behind Brandin Posiemski, Moses Moody and Gary Payton II.
