Steve Kerr is one of the best coaches in NBA history, and his resume with the Golden State Warriors is proof of that.
The 59-year-old won four championships with the Golden State Warriors and helped build the dynasty along with Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson.
Despite all the successes, Steve Kerr has been the subject of criticism recently, especially for his treatment of young Warriors player Jonathan Cuminga.
Kerr benched Kuminga for a critical game in the playoffs, even after already proving his abilities when given the chance.
When the offseason hit and Kuminga had the opportunity to go his way in a restricted free agency, the Warriors tried to stop him, but he appears to be looking for regular playing time – something that Dub can’t offer.
Carr has revealed in the past that it is difficult to fit Kuminga in rotation with players like Curry and Jimmy Butler.
Kuminga entered the league as an 18-year-old young man.
Dub took the chance with him and selected his seventh overall in the 2021 NBA Draft.
He certainly played his role for the Warriors ever since, and stepped up whenever they needed him.
But he wasn’t the lock of the car rotation when available to everyone.

Shannon Sharp recently called out Kerr and blamed him for the situation in Kuminga.
Now, Kerr has never really explained the reasons for his lack of faith in Kuminga. However, he recently appeared on the Glue Guys Podcast to explain his coaching style. It explains some things about what happened at the age of 22.
He states: “We aren’t practicing anymore, so we have to develop these 19-year-olds who are coming to the league without much practice time.
“I’m a pupil of Phil (Jackson) and Pop (Greg Popovich), so I didn’t know what to lean on the younger people and what great development drills, things that I had made decisions, things that I had never done or how to teach.”
Kuminga is one of the league’s most confident young players, and multiple sources close to the team have expressed it in recent months.
He trusts his abilities and is even happy to accept the qualifying offer that will help Kuminga enter unlimited free agency next season.
But with the Warriors, he plays with three veteran veterans and commands the ball for most of the game.
Kuminga doesn’t have the opportunity to showcase the game, but all three veterans are nearing the end of their career business, and Congolese National can take over the reins from them.
However, Kerr needs to intervene and demonstrate his male management skills with Kuminga.
He must show him faith and give his 22-year-old some chance if things go well during negotiations.
season | point | rebound |
2024-25 | 9.3 | 3.3 |
2023-24 | 9.9 | 3.4 |
2022-23 | 16.8 | 4.8 |
2021-22 | 15.3 | 4.6 |
Currently, Kuminga doesn’t seem to want to be a warrior, but he doesn’t get the talent to learn from anywhere else.
However, the player needs to know that his coach wants him, something only Kerr can take care of by talking to Kuminga.
