Whatever happens from here, 2024-25 will go down as something memorable for Dennis Schroeder.
Dennis Schroeder began his season with the Brooklyn Nets and won a deal with the Golden State Warriors in mid-December.
The move was intended to flag the Golden State team, but Schroeder found himself involved in trade rumors just a month later.
Schroeder was eventually cast into Jimmy Butler’s trade and was temporarily registered with the Utah Jazz before being turned over by the Detroit Pistons.
This made Schroeder the punchline, one of the losers of the trade deadline, but for now the German star was able to find himself in a winning situation.
Schroeder found a natural match against the emerging Pistons team. He is being tilted to calm down in the long run after having a major playoff impact.
Schroeder, who won a dramatic second half three in a Game 2 victory with the New York Knicks, helped Detroit win its first playoff game since 2009.
NBA legend Steve Nash provided Dennis Schroeder’s views on the situation and a brief previous stint with the Golden State Warriors.
Nash pointed out that the way Golden State played made Schroeder an unnatural fit into their offense.
He told the young man and the three:
“When they run them with a lot of Steph, they’re more of a pinch post, cut off the ball and split it.
“It’s an adjustment for a guy who likes to be a snake’s head. So to speak, it’s about talking when they’re on the floor.”
Nash points out that while not entirely the opposite of the Detroit Pistons, there are enough differences to make his new home healthier.
“Of course he’s going to do that in Detroit, but he has to play Cade (Cunningham) from time to time.
“I don’t think that’s more of a adjustment than the way the Warriors play.
He realizes that Jimmy Butler is ultimately suited to the Warriors, and this is just part of the dilemma team that needs to be considered when making a deal.
When Golden State moved to Schroeder in mid-December, the situation with Butler in the Miami Heat had just begun to simmer, rather than reaching boiling point.
“Jimmy is, in that way, a great fit, so to speak, compared to Dennis. Obviously, they are different carriers with players of different calibers, but that’s often the case, what is the fit like?
“How does someone fit in what you’re doing? And Dennis can be a bit polarized, but that makes him great.
“He is an aggro, and that is what makes him great, he seems competitive, he is not going to step back.
“He’s not afraid. So you can’t ask for both right, you have to take it all.”
Cam Johnson began his NBA season as a teammate of Brooklyn Nets Dennis Schroeder.
Speaking about the podcast, Johnson insisted that he didn’t believe Schroeder was in line with what the Warriors were trying to do.
Johnson explained: “I just don’t think Golden State is the perfect fit. If you try to adjust and adapt the way they play, I don’t think that’s what he wants to play.”
He had kind words for Schroeder. I’m filled with praise for what he’s brought to his net team and the fit he’s embraced in Detroit now.
“He got off to a big start to the season with us. He was an engine, an emotional point guard. You were walking down the court with that guy.
“He bares the fans, he bares the players. If something is right and centered, as a teammate, it’s what you want and the person who has your back, go down and you’re going dirty.
“But in the playoffs now, Detroit has created their identity this year about playing physically, physically, figuratively and literally without fear.
