Batting icon Steve Smith for the Australian national cricket team may have just picked up the bat for the first time in three months just a few days ago, but he has revealed he will bolster his career until the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

Steve Smith is currently preparing for the final 2025 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) against South Africa at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Field. The big game will begin on June 11th as Australia’s national cricket team aims to maintain the WTC Mace.

Ahead of the 2025 WTC Finals, Australian legend has cancelled all retirement rumours by declaring that representing his country at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles is his ultimate goal. In particular, Smith has been extremely selective about how he trains for the past 10 months.

The right-handed batsman said he felt strong, like before 2014, after extensively working on a fitness regimen with a new American personal trainer. He also said his hips are more flexible now.

Well, the 36-year-old admitted that staying mentally stronger as he gets older becomes more severe, but he emphasized the importance of staying focused, and that he is in the right mental framework to hit longer.

Smith admitted to feeling uncomfortable during BGT 2024-25 against India due to retirement talks between fans and the media, but reaffirmed that the Australian star wants to play at the 2028 Olympics.

Smith silenced the resignation talks with a bold statement about why it’s not in his mind. The former Australian skipper was quoted as saying in Code Sports, “That’s my number one goal.”

Meanwhile, Smith shares the Lord’s love ahead of the WTC Finals against South Africa, calling it his favorite ground after Sydney. He spoke about the famous slopes and the fast outfield at the iconic Lord’s cricket field.

Steve Smith calls the Lord’s Favorite Ground after Sydney

The veteran batsman adds, “Maybe it’s history, the surface itself to play on my favorite ground outside of Sydney. It always takes a few balls to get used to that slope. On one end, you’re really tall, and on the other end, it feels like the ball is a little bit farther down the hill.”

He even joked that he missed the legendary lunch at Lords. Smith said, “And the lunch is great. They always say it’s a great place to get away. Luckily, unfortunately, I did really well there and couldn’t cash it out.”
