Sunil Gavaskar wrote in his daytime column: “The ECB is entitled to call the series entirely by the name of their choice, but it is jarring for Indian cricket enthusiasts to know that Anderson’s name will come first.
He has not been concerned about running and Test cricket for centuries, but he has more running than anyone else, even on the day level. Anderson is third on the list of wicket takers in Test cricket, and his record is not as good as Tendulker in one day cricket. ”

Furthermore, Gavaskar strongly suggests that Sachin Tendulkar’s name should have come first with the new trophy title. He said Tendulkar accomplished much more than James Anderson. Gavaskar pointed out that Anderson’s success was primarily in the English situation, but Tendulkar dominated all over the world.
He dismissed the idea of using alphabetical order as a crippling excuse, saying there is no actual comparison between the two. The legendary batsman has urged Indian fans and Indian media to call it the Tendulkar Anderson Trophy instead of the Anderson Tendulkar Trophy.

Gavaskar explained further. “From all accounts, Tendulkar’s name should come first. They don’t have a comparison between what Tendulkar did and what Anderson has for their respective countries, so there is no comparison between what Tendulkar did and what he achieved. Anderson should not misunderstand Anderson. urge all Indian cricket enthusiasts, including the Indian media, to call it the Tendulkar-anderson trophy.”

Finally, Gavaskar shared new ideas to better celebrate Pataudi’s legacy after the Pataudi trophy was replaced by the Tendulkar-Anderson trophy. He wondered why only the captain of the winning team won the Pataudi medal and asked what would happen if the series ended in a draw.
The legendary cricketer thinks it makes most sense to give players in matches a Pataudi medal in every Test and to give players in the series a Pataudi Trophy.
