Johnny Herbert supported Sebastian Vettel to take over from Helmut Marco.
On Saudi Arabia’s Grand Prix weekend, Marco appointed Vettel as his dream successor.
“I think he’s an ideal candidate for successor,” Marco told Sky Germany.
“But at some point, it is clear that we can no longer do that, especially because of our age.
“Because these travel efforts are not a small thing. Of course, it would be great if a guy like Sebastian could take over. You have the junior program aspect.
“He’s already working with girls in Saudi go-karts. And on the other side there’s a big strategic leadership of his Formula One team.”
Marko has played a key role in Red Bull since 2005, overseeing the young driver program.
He is widely responsible for the programmes such as Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo, and Verstappen.
At 81, Marco admitted that he didn’t know how long he had left Formula 1.
Given their close relationship, Marco could potentially extend his Red Bull career as long as he is on the team.
Vettel Return: Suitable for F1
Vettel called time into his racing career at the end of 2022, following a two-year inactive year with Aston Martin.
Since then, Vettel has only made sporadic appearances in Padoc.
A return to the race that appears to have been off the card allows Vettel to fill in the blank Marco left when he decides to retire.
Herbert believes that Vettel has a role within Red Bull will be a “great story.”
“This is going to be a great story if you think Sebastian Vettel will replace Helmut Marco and he will do a great job,” Herbert told Beste Online Casino Nederland. “But it means leaving his young family, so it’s a lot of travel and a lot of commitment. I hope he does the job because he’s good for Formula 1.
“For Marco, there will always be a point where he might want to move or stop as he gets older. He clearly loves sports and is involved.
