Team boss Oaks extends shock from Alpine
SHARE

Oliver Oakes, principal of the Alpine team, quickly and effectively resigned from his position, with Flavio Briatore taking over his responsibility.

Oakes was named only Alpine’s team principal last summer, and began work in August, and after a mid-season shutdown, he first raced in his role at Zandvaort. Britton was to speak to the media on the Sunday night after the Miami Grand Prix, but the session was cancelled due to changes in his travel plans. The general belief is to avoid facing multiple questions about potential driver lineup changes.

Alpine has raised speculation that Jack Douhan has been replaced by Franco Colapinto, and it is understood that the Argentines are being considered for promotion from their next race at Imola. The Oaks said on Friday that the drivers are constantly being appreciated, but stressed that as things stand, Douhan will race with Pierre Guthrie in Imola.

The focus is on the driver lineup, but Alpine has moved to the fifth team principal in the last four years. The team gave no reason for Oaks to resign.

“The BWT Alpine F1 team has announced that Oliver Oakes has resigned from its role as team principal,” the team’s statement read.

“The team quickly accepted his resignation.

“As of today, Flavio Briatore will continue as an executive advisor and will also be responsible for the duties previously performed by Oliver Oakes.

“The team would like to thank Oliver for his efforts since joining last summer and for his contributions to helping the team take sixth place in the 2024 Constructors Championship.”
