The winning streak lost this early season coincided with East Coast trip, which forced them to play in much colder conditions than before.
The cold weather isn’t an excuse for their poor play, but outfielder Tescal Hernandez pointed out that it makes a difference.
“It’s a bit difficult as a player,” Hernandez said of the cold weather after Tuesday’s 8-2 defeat to the Washingtonians. “I’ve been cold for six years on this side of the (country) early in the season. I arrived in LA last year in the first year of playing early games without cold weather. That’s a big difference.
Until Tuesday’s beatdown, the appeared to be hurting themselves with their own loss mistakes. Bad bass running, poor field and uncharacteristic at-bats led to this streak.
However, Hernandez didn’t want the cold weather to be an excuse.

“We’re not used to playing in the cold, but it’s not an excuse for us to perform differently,” Hernandez said. “But they hit the ball pretty well, get on the base and score. We’re not putting together a good at-base. We’re not on the base, so everything isn’t going as we want it to. That’s the game. We need to come back tomorrow.”
The are trying to avoid being swept Wednesday in the series finale. Luckily they’re away as the return to warm weather Los Angeles on Thursday for a six-game homestand.
