Teoscar Hernández will not be participating in this season’s home run derby during the All-Star Weekend in July.
Los Angeles’ right fielder won the second All-Star selection of his career in 2024. It was also his first season with the after signing a one-year deal with the franchise.
Hernandez took part in last season’s home run derby, beating Kansas City Royals’ shortstop Bobby Whitt Jr. in the final round of the contest.
Having hit 49 home runs throughout the contest, Hernandez became the first player in history to win the Derby.
Hernandez, who now votes second to National League outfielder in the 2025 All-Star vote behind Chicago Cubs Center fielder Pete Crow Armstrong, has decided not to win a back-to-back title.
The reality champion said he didn’t want to take an extra risk after spending two weeks on an injured list with a tense gro caliber per AM 570 LA sports.
“I don’t want to put anything at risk after being injured earlier this year, so please stay on board and don’t take part,” Hernandez said.

Hernandez added that he initially thought of competing in the derby, but ultimately opposed it. However, the three-time Silver Slugger could return to next season’s competition.
Only two players have announced that they will be participating in this season’s Home Run Derby.
Atlanta Braves right fielder Ronald Aknya Jr. has previously hit nine home runs twice and has made his first announcement of his participation. After that, Seattle Mariners catcher Callowry, who hit 32 home runs, is his first time in his career, and his father pitches for him.
Hernández has not played in the Derby this season, but has not stopped firing the ball on the ‘ fence.
Hernandez hit a Los Angeles career-high 33 home runs last season, including three postseason runs. In 2025, Hernandez hit 14 home runs. This ranks 19th in the NL and 3rd in the .
