Liverpool’s recent collapse from bounty was marked by a string of defeats, causing alarm and introspection among fans and critics.
The Reds have spent a lot of money in the summer, expectations are rising, and the current slump is surprising.
Former England defender Rio Ferdinand provided a diagnosis and argued that the key issue facing Liverpool today is imbalance.
Speaking by Rio presenting a podcast, Ferdinand argues that Arne Slot’s team lacks a harmony of roles, structures and identity.
Rio Ferdinand warns Liverpool
Ferdinand said:
“I think the balance between their teams is the issue, and that’s what’s important to find the right balance.
“They’re all three midfielders, Szoboszlai, Gravenberch and Mac Allister, all of them are good grafters, all around the pitch, covering others and making great sacrifices in their own game for other players.
“On their team, especially in the wider area, as you say, Wirtz is in, and he isn’t scoring, but he’s not really supporting.
“And like you said, along with all the players attacking the show, they’re beginning to be chosen.”
Red made major changes to the summer transfer period
Liverpool started the season on promise. With over £450 million spent in the summer transfer period, the club quickly looked like a favorite to win the Premier League title again.
However, recent defeats to Crystal Palace and Chelsea and Galatasaray in the Champions League have raised doubts about the possibility of winning silverware this season.
Their performance is disappointing as expensive new signatures like Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz didn’t settle for the club.
Ferdinand is spotted when he says too many changes have been made in the team. Players like Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Harvey Elliott left, creating a disruption for the team.
Despite the club’s problems, Alan Shearer predicted that the Reds would win the Premier League once again.
