The Wolverhampton Wanderers showed what they could do in a 4-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend.
Of course, it was just the Spurs, but if Vitor Pereira has the talented players at his disposal and can go ahead of next season, could a top half finish be on the card?
One thing Pereira hopes is that Mateus Cunha stays old golden in 2025/26 to attack the Premier League table.
But given his interest in him, that seems quite unlikely.
The latest in the future of Matheus Cunha
The Brazilian enjoys an incredible campaign summarised in a goal against the Spurs on Sunday.
With the Molineux side 3-2 and Spurs pushing the equalizer in the dying minutes, Cunha netted the clincher, who saw the club bring all three points home.
In the process of doing so, he ran over to the wolf crowd and appeared to apologise for his actions over the weekend.
Certainly, the forward got into the bath after an Instagram post, after he was later deleted, and he ranted his supporters.
Well, he let his football talk and responded on Sunday in the best possible way. The club will not take action, as confirmed after Pereira’s game over the weekend.
“I didn’t tell Cunha about my social media post,” the wolf boss admitted. “I let him talk on the pitch. He’s committed, he’s a special player. He needs the energy of love. He thinks about his team, not his own. I understand the fans, but he’s part of our family.”

Football Fancast’s Chalkboard series presents tactical discussions centered around global games.
Overall, Cunha scored 16 times in 2024/25 and scored four assists for the club, so if they weren’t involved in the target, they could be in a place of relegation.
When he signs the new contract, a release clause of £62.5 million will be inserted, and it appears Manchester United will be in effect on Keene Key in the move for him.
This money can go a long way in securing a replacement. There is no doubt about that.
But perhaps anyone has become more important than the former Atletico Madrid star?
Wolf Stars are now more important than Cunha
If Cunha leaves for a big buck, Jorgen Strand Larsen is ready to slip into his shoes and take on the wolf mantle charm.
The Norwegian, initially signed on a loan agreement, made the transaction permanent in January at a fee worth around £23 million, as certain conditions were met.
Since playing Southampton mid-March, Larsen has found the backstage of the net in four consecutive Premier League matches.
It’s safe to say he is in the best form of his career at Molyneux.
Compare Cunha and Larsen in this season’s PL | ||
---|---|---|
metric | Cunya | Larsen |
the goal | 14 | 12 |
assist | 4 | 2 |
Key Passes for each game | 1.7 | 0.6 |
A big opportunity has been created | 12 | 5 |
Shots for each game | 3.3 | 1.6 |
Touch each game | 53.3 | 23.3 |
His 12 goals and three assists are five goals involved from Cunha’s mark. With more responsibility, he could become a key player in old money for the next term. That’s certain.
He ranks second in goals (12) scored on the Wolf’s top flight (12), but is ranked 4th in targets per game (1.1), fourth in fourth with the fourth big chance (4).
Journalist Josh Bunting was impressed with his abilities at the start of the season, saying, “His movement from the ball is really stand out for me and sharp to the ball.”
The past few months have certainly proven that the club is right to secure his signature forever. Especially at the regional rate of £23 million.
If he starts the next season, Larsen will undoubtedly become the club’s most important focus in the way he ends what is currently.
