Draymond Green warns the rest of the NBA that the LA Lakers will differ under new ownership.
The Los Angeles Lakers look to be entering a new era, so they will never be the same again. Last week, Mark Walters bought the Lakers for $10 billion.
With this sale, the Lakers shattered the Boston Celtics’ previous $6.1 billion sales record, and are now the most expensive team in all sports.
Given the amount of money Dr. Jerry Bass invested in the Lakers in 1979, the Bass family sold the team for great profits.
But now, as Walter takes the reins, Lakers fans can be sure they have more financial freedom. Walter signing Shohei ohtani on a large contract is proof that he is willing to value his superstar players and invest at a high level.
This will be a fun time for the Lakers. However, as the Lakers are more dangerous than ever, Draymond Green believes the spell will cause disaster for the rest of the NBA.
Draymond Green spoke on a podcast about the recent LA Lakers sale. He pointed out that under Walter now the Lakers would spend more.
The reason Bass’ family didn’t spend that much is because the Lakers were their primary source of income. That’s not the case for Walter, a businessman other than sports ventures.
“It puts the Lakers in danger. The only thing that would stop them was taking this with a grain of salt… They did more than I did, but due to the conditions of the NBA ownership standard, the Jeannie Bass and the Bass family were one of the wealthiest families in the money.
“They got a big asset they just sold, but that’s kind of a source of income. So when it’s the source of your income, you’ll do it a little differently, be more careful.”
“I think we’ll get this new ownership group… The Lakers are going to be very dangerous. They’re not only one of the most famous franchises in the history of the sport, but now the pockets match and they’re acting that way.”
As the new owner of the Lakers, Walter will want to invest in the team’s resources and facilities. The Lakers are known for being cheap and willing to spend money whenever they need it.
One of the major changes you need to make is in the front office. Lakers fans believe Rob Perinka’s work is at risk as Walter wants to make a big splash.
In addition to his close relationship with Walter with Magic Johnson, which Perinka had trouble during his latter period as Lakers President, there is reason to believe he is a consumable.
Walter has made MLB fan service a priority. So it would be fair to assume he would do the same thing as the Lakers.
In fact, if Perinka’s work is considered unsatisfactory, he can show the door, as Walter appears to start anew from the team.
