The right-hander has abolished the committee since August 2023 when he pitched at Stadium against the Miami Marlins. On Wednesday afternoon, Gonsorin returns to the same mound and faces off against the same team on his long-awaited return.
The right-hander ran the stellar 2022 campaign, 16-1 with the 2.14 ERA, earning his first All-Star honor. The 2023 season proved to be even more challenging as it went 8-5 with an ERA 4.98.
After 3.1 innings in the final start of 2023, Gonsorin was pulled out of his 10 outings, and it was later revealed that he needed Tommy John’s surgery on his elbow.
The All-Star worked to return to the mound, but by September 2024 he had done so. However, after three Triple A’s started a total of 2.35 ERA, the team chose not to have Gonsorin on any of the postseason rosters.
This past spring was set to return to rotation. He suffered a back injury and was approaching the crack before allowing the final spinning spot to be filled by fellow pitchers who returned from an injury at Dustin May.
After four productive starts with Triple A this season, Gonsorin is ready to return to the same mound that he left 20 months ago. The move also comes when the have 12 other pitchers on their injured list and are in desperate need of All-Star Mariver’s help.
The first pitch is at 12:10pm and we see Gonsorin reaching the long road to recovery.
