Los Angeles right-hander Evan Phillips was placed on the injured list with discomfort in his right forearm as a precaution. A few days later, Phillips does not pick up baseball for “a few weeks,” so the rescuer’s injuries appear to be far more serious than expected.

When providing the latest update on Phillips, Roberts admitted that the injury was worse than he thought. MRI of Phillips’ elbow revealed inflammation but no structural damage.
“Yeah, I think I’m just being honest,” Roberts said. “You go from potentially pitching that night until you go to say I can’t let go to the IL.
“But… am I worried about that? No.”
Phillips was expected to be first revitalized when he was eligible to leave IL. But it doesn’t seem to happen.
The are being cautious about Phillips as they need stretches and October. The right-hander was one of the ‘ best bailouts last season, finishing the year with a 3.62 ERA, 63 strikeouts and 17 walks over 54.2 innings.
“It’s just an inflammation of his elbow so it’s just taking a little time,” Roberts said. “We’re going to spend time on Evan because, as I said from the beginning, he’s incredibly valuable in the future, we have to be careful and careful about our accumulation.”
Phillips has not allowed a run this season, threw six strikeouts while allowing two walks over 5.2 innings.
